Ras Abu Galum area became a Natural Protectorate in 1992. It is located 8 km north of Dahab and Bedouins call this dive site “Abu Auwda”. It can be reached only by four-wheel car, camel or by boat. There are many options to dive, either to the north or the south. You find more than 165 different kind of corals, 44 of which are endemic and cannot be found in any other place. The dive sites are sheltered and the diving conditions are usually good. Dive sites have soft sandy spots with beautiful coral pinnacles in between which numerous gold fish make their home. After 8 meter the reef wall slopes down and leads to the blue. To t...he north, coral gardens with table corals, crocodile fish, turtles, and lionfish are excellent for beginner divers or a shallower second dive of the day. To the south, divers will find drop-offs and pinnacles, look out and you might see trevallies or jackfish. At the end of the dive, when going shallower, you will find a wide range of hard corals, fire corals and schools of reef fish.
