Mini Safari: Tiran (Aqaba Coast only)

Highlights

This three-day safari is a very popular option if you are not sure if a live aboard cruise will be the right thing for you

You wish to combine your stay in Sinai with land-based activities while avoid the crowds of daily boat diving

9 to 11 dives are planed at various sites such as coral gardens, drop offs, shallower plateaus and colorful slopes rich in marine life

To enjoy diving you are an Open Water certified diver with at least 15 logged dives, an Advanced Open Water license is recommended for some of the more demanding dive sites visited on this safari

Itinerary

Sample Itinerary

1. Day

Starting from 18:00 H (6 PM) transfer to New Marina (El Wataneya) port and embark. Welcome on board, cabin arrangement and boat briefing. Permission work with port authority, sailing very early next morning.

2. Day

Check dive at Temple or Ras Katy. The boat will then sail towards the Strait of Tiran. The second dive of the day will be either Woodhouse or Jackson Reef. Third dive of the day can be Gordon Reef. The boat will moor at the South Lagoon for the evening where you may join a night dive.

3. Day

First dive will take you to Jackson Reef, the most northern site in the Strait of Tiran. After breakfast, we visit Woodhouse Reef, which is perfect for a drift dive along the sheltered eastern side. Your third dive of the day will be depending on sea conditions either at North or South Lagoon with an optional night dive at the South Lagoon. During summer more dives at Jackson Reef will be offered to look out for the school of hammerhead sharks.

4. Day

First dive of the day is usually Thomas Reef, the smallest of the four Tiran reefs but probably the most interesting and richest in marine life. Next dive is Gordon Reef, which gently slopes to the south and forms a large plateau. After lunch you will leave the reefs of Tiran towards Sharm for your third dive at Ras Nasrani, Ras Ghamila or maybe Ras Um Sid – the decision is made onboard. Return to New Marina (El Wataneya) port and disembark till latest 16:00 H (4 PM).
